Do Sperrys rain boots run big or small? ›

If you're buying Sperry leather shoes, consider buying a half size down from your regular size. If the shoes are made of synthetic materials, get your normal size. Synthetic materials won't stretch; they're constructed to hold their shape (i.e., size).

It is usually a good idea to go up a size with a welly.

If you go up a size, it allows room for thicker winter socks to keep your toes and feet warm in the colder months.

It's great for rain, muddy days, or light, surface level snow. Basically, not intense weather days. More like a chilly, casual Fall day. But they'll keep your feet covered and that's the goal.

These boots are comfortable and warm in both snowy and rainy conditions. Though Sperry sells more insulated boots, I found that these work well for the climate I live in where there may only be a couple days of snow, but a lot of rain. The grip on the bottom is great in icy conditions.

Rain boots should not be snug, as you can make up extra space somewhat with midweight socks or thicker (which we recommend to increase cushioning and comfort). Our testers both have size 12 feet with a D width, and we went with American size 13's in all but one boot (the Baffin Enduro, which runs big).

How to wear rain boots? It depends on if you're wearing an over-shoe design. While our BYR100 allows you to slip the boots on over your shoes, other styles require you to take off your shoes to slip on the rain boots.

Wear Dress Socks with Sperrys

It depends on what type of rain boots you're getting. Generally, you should size up if you plan on wearing thicker socks with your boots. If you're getting rubber rain boots, it's best to buy the same size that you would normally wear in shoes. For regular tall boots, size up half a size for comfort.

You can also stretch your rain boots using heat, as heat will make the rubber expand. For this method, you only need a pair of thick socks and a hairdryer, then undertake the following process: Wear a pair of thick socks and then put on your rain boots. Turn the hairdryer on and set it to high heat.

Generally speaking, there should be about one finger's width of space between your longest toe and the end of the shoe. Another way to check this is to slip a finger between the heel of your foot and the heel of your shoe. There should be just enough space for your finger to fit nice and snugly.
