21 Day Fix Recipes – Ranch Dressing Recipe:
Today I’m focusing on 21 day fix recipes for ranch dressing! This recipe is great because it allows you to mix up your spices and store them in an airtight container so you can whip up a batch of ranch anytime, in mere minutes.
To make the 21 day fix ranch dressing, combine 1 tablespoon of the spice mix with1/3 cup nonfat plain Greek yogurt and 1/3 cup low-fat buttermilk. I like to put all of my ingredients into a glass salad dressing shaker bottle. Then jus shake it up! If you don’t have a dressing bottle then just mix in a bowl.
You’ll be amazed when you bite into this and the flavor explodes in your mouth. It’s delicious!! Serve it on salads, sandwiches, for dipping vegetables, with buffalo wings, anywhere you’d use ranch dressing! Keep in the fridge. This is one of my favorite 21 day fix recipes and I’d gladly eat it whether I was trying to shed pounds or not!
Store your remaining spice mix in an airtight container. I added a label to mine so I can easily reference the recipe whenever I need to mix up some more!
I had several friends and family members who aren’t on the 21 day fix meal plan give this ranch dressing a taste. They couldn’t believe the amazing flavor! It’s a sure winner and you’ll definitely want to pin this post for easy finding later or share it on Facebook so your friends can give it a try too!

To get the same amount of ranch flavor in the dish as you'd have gotten from the dry mix, you'd have to use as much as the dry packet would make ... which is typically a couple of cups of dressing ... and that can be a lot of liquid to add to a dish.
I work in a restaurant and the ranch we serve is hidden valley ranch. Although, you can buy it in the bottle or you can buy the package and make it yourself, the two taste a lot different. We actually make it fresh with the package (it's so much better that way) and you can do that at home.
Ranch Dressing: is typically used when topping salads. The consistency of the dressing is usually thin and runny. Ranch Dip: Ranch Dip is mainly used for dipping things like chips, celery, carrots etc. Ranch dip is a way heartier than ranch dressing which is why it's made more for dipping than dressing/topping.
This might seem obvious, but you can add a lot of flavor to ranch dressing by adding more of what's already in it. I love adding lots of fresh herbs, extra garlic, or even lemon zest.
Even when a restaurant does start with premade ranch, they will often fold in extra fresh herbs, and maybe even more buttermilk, to lighten and bring in some brighter flavors that can be lost in shelf-stable bottling.
The ranch packet has a fresher taste, because you add your own mayo and milk. Even though all the herbs and spices in the mix are dried, they rehydrate quickly and leave you with a product that feels homemade. This version of Hidden Valley Ranch is more flavorful than the bottled version and much, much thicker.
Ranch dressing is a savory, creamy American salad dressing usually made from buttermilk, salt, garlic, onion, mustard, herbs (commonly chives, parsley and dill), and spices (commonly pepper, paprika and ground mustard seed) mixed into a sauce based on mayonnaise or another oil emulsion.
This homemade ranch seasoning mix can be used for both. The difference comes in what you combine the seasoning mix with to make either a dip or dressing. Ranch dressing is typically made with milk and mayo, while ranch dip is typically made with sour cream.
What are the ingredients in ranch dressing? I use a mix of mayonnaise, sour cream, and a bit of buttermilk for some tang, plus garlic, and plenty of fresh herbs. I also like to add a dash of cayenne pepper for a kick, but you can add Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, or whatever you want.
While many restaurants use mass produced ranch mix, they often add it to a higher-quality base. This might include milk, buttermilk, sour cream, or mayonnaise. So when you notice that the ranch in a restaurant tastes better than the bottled dressing from the store, what you're really tasting is delicious, creamy fat.
As The New York Times pointed out, one of the elements that make us crave ranch is its creaminess. The other element is the herbs, including thyme, parsley, dill, and allium flavors — meaning onions and garlic. Remove the creaminess, and you're left with a less-than-satisfying experience.
Directions. In a medium bowl, whisk together buttermilk, sour cream, and mayonnaise until smooth.Whisk in thyme, garlic, and cayenne pepper.Season to taste with salt and pepper.
There are 2 tablespoons of ranch seasoning in one packet of ranch seasoning mix. So if a recipe calls for a packet of ranch seasoning all you have to do is measure out 2 tablespoons and add it into the recipe instead of using the packet.
In a chilled salad bowl, add the greens and lightly coat the inside of the bowl with Ranch Dressing. Add the Croutons and toss lightly. Garnish with the tomatoes, avocado and bacon, serve immediately.
